Securing WordPress Websites and Blogs – Blacklist by IP Address

- - Wordpress

As a WordPress administrator, implementing automatic IP blacklisting can save you tons of time and energy.
Blocking IP Addresses can significantly reduce Brute Force attacks by placing users on timeouts or permanently blocking them from making future login attempts. This is a must have feature for any website not just WordPress and should be considered as part of your online security strategy.

Block IP Address WordPress Plugin

WordPress makes implementing IP Address Blacklisting super easy via a nifty plugin called Login LockDown. This plugin records the IP address and timestamp of every failed login attempt. If more than a declared number of attempts are detected within a certain time period from the same IP range, then the login function is disabled for all requests from that range. This helps to prevent brute force attacks and password guessing. The plugin is fully configurable via the Options panel. Administrators can also release locked out IP ranges manually from the panel.
